Along
the northern Atlantic coastline lies Chincoteague and
Assateague Islands. Chincoteague is Virginia's only
resort island, boasting hotels, campgrounds, bed and
breakfast inns, restaurants, shops, and quaint museums.
At
Chincoteague, there's a round-up of wild ponies that
swim across the channel from nearby Assateague Island
each July.
Assateague
Island is home to the Chincoteague National Wildlife
Refuge and the Assateague Island National Seashore.
Here you can see the famous wild ponies grazing in the
marches among egrets, herons, and other waterfoul. At
the southern tip of the peninsula is the 651 acre Eastern
Shore National Wildlife Refuge, established in 1984.
Visitors can view a variety of wildfowl, including an
occasional bald eagle or peregrine falcon.
As
you relax on our island, talk to the people.
They'll share tales and legends you won't see in print.
But, most of all, relax in our special way . . `
You'll discover that
Chincoteague is quite a find! |
